Keynote Panel: Connectivity for all: Fixed wireless access, fiber or both?

5G fixed wireless access has been touted as a “killer” 5G application, with the potential to serve consumer and commercial demand, especially in underserved markets. However, fiber has the advantage of superior speeds and backhaul capabilities, as well as being upgradeable. This panel will unpack the pros and cons of these two technologies, addressing the following questions: 

• What potential does an open-access model hold, and what lessons can be learnt from successful instances in other markets? 

• How are FTTH projects developing outside of core high-density markets? 

• How are collaborations between Fixed wireless access and fibre providers overcoming deployment barriers? 

• What are the optimal conditions for investment in last mile projects, especially in low-income countries
