Furthermore, real-time data transmission of soil conditions will allow for crop yield predictions and ultimately allow farmers to maximize their ROI, as well as act when is needed in order to be compliant with strict health and production regulations.
Apart from being used for monitoring purposes, IoT can be used by farmers to create perfect growing conditions for the product of their choice, efficiently allocate resources for the adequate growth of the produce and eliminate waste. The impact that IoT will have in the agriculture industry will have a widespread impact and positively affect other related industries such as large supermarket chains, for example, who will also be able to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
IoT is happening. It has the potential to completely revolutionize industries. According to a press release by Gartner, by 2020, IoT endpoint spending will reach almost $3 Trillion. Nonetheless, for IoT to meet its full potential, mobile network operators need to expand their reach, and consequently, the capabilities required to accommodate the exponential growth of connected devices and the pursuant data connectivity management demands. MNOs, MVNOs and telco service providers in general need to adapt in order to benefit from this revolution and fully attract IoT spend.
