NYIIX Celebrates 30 Years as a Leading Internet Exchange, Announces NYIIX Astron™ Platform with 400G Connectivity
NYIIX - Celebrating 30 years of connectivity
Neutral Internet Exchange founded by Telehouse expands across New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia while preparing for the next generation of high-capacity peering

The New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), one of the largest and longest-operating carrier-neutral Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in the United States, today marks thirty years of providing high-performance peering infrastructure that powers global internet connectivity. Founded in 1996 by Telehouse America, NYIIX was established to provide a neutral, resilient platform where networks could directly exchange internet traffic. Over the past three decades, the exchange has grown into a major interconnection hub serving hundreds of networks including internet service providers, content platforms, cloud providers, enterprises, financial services firms, gaming companies, and research and education networks. Today, NYIIX operates a distributed interconnection platform with multiple Points of Presence (PoPs) across key U.S. markets including New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, enabling scalable and low-latency connectivity between networks in some of the most important digital infrastructure markets in the world.

OUTSCALE and TELEHOUSE Advance Sovereign, Sustainable AI

  • As we celebrate 30 years of NYIIX, we reflect on how far the internet has evolved and the critical role neutral, high performance interconnection plays in the global digital economy. When we launched NYIIX in 1996, our vision was to create a resilient, carrier-neutral platform where networks could exchange traffic efficiently and collaboratively. Over the past three decades, NYIIX has grown into a thriving peering community.
    Akio Sugeno
Vice President of Internet Engineering at Telehouse America and founder of NYIIX

To support rapidly increasing traffic driven by cloud services, streaming media, AI workloads, gaming, and real-time applications, NYIIX recently introduced the NYIIX Astron™ platform, a next-generation infrastructure upgrade designed to deliver greater scalability, resiliency, and performance. The platform includes support for 400G Ethernet ports, enabling networks to exchange traffic at ultra-high speeds while maintaining the low latency and reliability required by modern digital services.

“With the introduction of the and NYIIX Astron™ platform and 400G capabilities, we are ensuring the exchange is prepared to support the next generation of internet growth,” Sugeno added. Looking ahead, NYIIX will continue investing in infrastructure upgrades and expanding its interconnection ecosystem to support future internet growth. “Global internet traffic continues to accelerate as new digital platforms, cloud services, and AI applications emerge,” said Jose Guzman, Principal NYIIX Engineer at Telehouse.

“With the Astron™ platform and 400G connectivity, we are building the foundation for the next phase of interconnection growth. Our goal is to ensure NYIIX continues delivering the scale, reliability, and performance our members depend on for decades to come.”

As NYIIX enters its fourth decade, the exchange remains focused on strengthening the global internet ecosystem through innovation, operational excellence, and a continued commitment to neutral interconnection.
